Terms and Conditions
Reservations and Payments
Availability of the courses changes daily. A place can be booked or provisionally booked by telephone, email or by completing the application form on the website.
Confirmation of a booking is made on receipt of a non-refundable deposit (booking fee) of £90. If this payment is not made at the time of the booking, a place will be reserved until the course is nearly fully booked. If the £90 deposit has not been received by that time, the student will be contacted to ask for the deposit which must be received within five working days to confirm the place on the course, otherwise it will be allocated to the next applicant.
Course fees are due eight weeks before the start of the course. If the balance of fees is not received by the due date Orchards Cookery reserves the right to offer the place to another student on the waiting list.
Optional extras are due with the course fees, or on arrival and must be paid by the end of the course.
Cancellations
If students wish to cancel their confirmed booking they must do so in writing. If students cancel within the eight week period prior to the start of their course and the place is filled the fees will be refunded except for the £90 deposit and a £15 admin charge (unless the student has benefitted from the recruitment service, see below). If the place is not able to be filled the student will be responsible for full payment of the remaining course fees, as the school will have lost bookings due to a place being unavailable.
The deposit can be transferred on to another five day or two week course, but it is not transferable from student to student.
If the school has started the recruitment process with a student (eg. CV writing, interview training etc.) and the student cancels their place before the course fees have been paid, a flat rate fee of £185 will be charged (in most cases this will have already been paid), regardless of the total time spent on the student as this varies from person to person, the time of year etc. If the course fees have been paid and the school is able to fill the place, £185 and an admin charge of £15 will be deducted from the amount refunded.
The above charges are to cover time and loss of earnings due to students plans changing, which is no fault of Orchards Cookery.
If a student cancels their place and the course fees are unable to be refunded, the student will be offered any unsold places on courses by email, until they are able to complete a course. Places on courses might be offered at short notice.
If a student leaves a course before the course has finished Orchards Cookery is unable to refund course fees.
Students are advised to take out their own insurance against cancellation for any reason outside their control.
Orchards Cookery reserves the right to cancel (as a last resort when faced with unavoidable circumstances) and / or make any alterations to courses, dates, fees and accommodation where necessary, at their discretion. All enrolled students will be notified immediately of any changes.
Terminations
Orchards Cookery reserves the right to terminate the training of any student without reimbursement of fees if the student is guilty of unreasonable or improper conduct, or breach of house rules.
If a student leaves during a course fees will not be reimbursed.
Health & Safety
Orchards Cookery has a number of house rules which are enforced in the interests of students’ health and safety. Excessive drinking, drink driving and the use of illegal drugs are not permitted and if students are thought to have been involved in these activities their course will be terminated immediately. Fees will not be reimbursed under such circumstances.
Students are expected to report, and where appropriate pay for, any damage and breakages.
Students working in the kitchen should wear lightweight clothing, long hair should be tied back and comfortable non-slip shoes with covered toes should be worn.
Students must advise Orchards Cookery at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements, food allergies or religious beliefs that may affect their eating behaviour. Orchards Cookery is unable to tailor the course content for special dietary requirements, but is happy to make arrangements, where possible, to enable students to take part in a course. Would students with severe food allergies (eg. nuts) please telephone the school when making a booking, to discuss ingredients used in the kitchens.
As some of the hobs in the kitchens are induction hobs and areas immediately surrounding them are electromagnetically charged, any student with a pacemaker should seek medical advice prior to coming on the course.
Property belonging to students is brought to The Orchards at their own risk. Orchards Cookery accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage. Neither does the school accept liability for personal injury except as imposed by statute.
Orchards Cookery takes photographs during courses. These photographs are sometimes used on the Orchards Cookery website, on social media, or in a printed format. If you would prefer that the photographs you (or your son or daughter) may be in are not used in this way, please let us know at the time of booking or during the course.
